TOP CAREERS THROUGH ONLINE DEGREE

Top Careers through Online Degree

Impressive growth in the availability of accredited online classes has made a difference to people who can't stop in the middle of their busy family and professional lives to re-train for the workplace. Whether you already hold a college degree, are looking for an advanced degree or credentials--or if you're leaping into a new profession entirely--online colleges have tailored degree programs to provide accelerated training for what are predicted to be the best, highest-demand jobs through the next decade.
Let's look at ten of the top careers fueled by online degree programs:
1. Accounting
The increasing number of businesses, rapidly-changing financial laws, and expanded oversight requirements for publicly-traded companies is driving the demand for
accounting professionals right through the corporate roof! Specializing in big-picture management analysis, tax accounting, forensic financial sleuthing, or auditing will make you especially sought after by employers.

Preparation for accounting careers is readily available, from bookkeeping certificates to bachelor's or master's degrees in accounting online. Accountants make about $45,000 per year at first, but salaries increase dramatically with experience. By passing the AICPA's exam and becoming a Certified Public Accountant your salary can double. And accounting directors or partners in successful firms pull in six figures routinely.
2. Change Management Consulting
Whenever businesses buy new software, develop products, shift traffic or warehousing, or simply alter their business models, the changes that ripple through the organizations can be highly disruptive. Consultants guide management's efforts to help employees at all levels deal with change effectively.
You can train through an
online MBA degree program while tending to your current responsibilities, taking courses in statistics, forecasting, human resources, and needs assessment. The compensation's worth it, with the median salary for a Change Management Consultant or Specialist at $114,417.
3. Web Graphic Design
It's not suspiring in our digital age that colleges and universities offer online degree programs in web graphic design. Among all the
graphic design professions, the web graphic designer will find the top jobs through the end of the decade, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Designers with a bachelor's degree and animation school expertise will move to the front of the hiring line.
According to Salary.com, a senior web designer earns up to $75,000. Take
online management or IT classes to move up to a design director's role, with national average pay of $140,000.
4. IT Consulting
Turn your
technology degree and IT experience to your advantage by studying online for this in-demand, power career. The BLS reports that jobs for technologists with MBA degrees will grow faster than the average for positions for all other occupations through 2014.
Top careers are in the offing for systems analysts and consultants who can identify a firm's immediate IT deficiencies, forecast long-term needs, and improve the bottom line. There are bonuses for top performance, and annual consultants' salaries average $85,904--more if you're an independent contractor.
5. Homeland Security Specialist
Jobs for people specializing in homeland security are predicted to grow by 35% in the next decade. You'll need at least an
online homeland security certificate to take one of these exciting jobs, and there are colleges offering online bachelor's degrees in criminal justice that focus on homeland security courses like terrorism, hate crimes, forensic psychology, and security management.
Salaries for homeland security specialists vary by agency (private, corporate, or governmental), and by experience. With a range from $12,776 to $142,498, the upside is enormous.
6. Culinary Management
Don't quit your night job at the restaurant. Take classes in an
online culinary and hospitality management program and step into a leadership role. You'll find bachelor and graduate degree programs offered online that help you master the principles of menu and supply planning, preparation, staff management, business law, and accounting.
Large full-service restaurants in major cities offer the highest compensation, including full benefits and performance bonuses. Top culinary jobs will also be found with hotels, resorts, and cruise lines.
7. Online Marketing
Why not
study online marketing ... online! Internet marketing managers, email and affiliate marketing professionals, and search engine marketing managers are in top demand. Take online undergrad and graduate marketing and eCommerce degree programs--or bolster your opportunities through an online MBA degree program.
Average salaries for top online pros with 4-7 years' experience are good: Internet marketing directors earn $84,600 to $95,400 and search-engine-optimization managers get $50,000--$75,000.
8. Teaching
There's a critical teaching shortage in the country, especially in core cities and rural community schools. To accelerate hiring, many school districts offer emergency credentialing for job candidates.
Online teacher-training courses are available all across the country.
If you already hold a
bachelor's degree, hire on immediately while you complete online state certification preparation classes or take additional courses in elementary and secondary education. Top job growth, the BLS reports, will be in the West and Southwest.
9. HR Recruiting
Looking for a career change? Online college and university
degree programs in business and human resource management will prep you for a role as an HR recruiter. If you already know how to network, you can start recruiting for a living while completing an online business degree.
The top jobs go to executive recruiters who contract with major companies to scour the country for management-level talent. Retainer search firms get paid--whether or not they find that top-caliber recruit. Executive recruiters, on average, bring home a minimum of $139,500, including salary and bonuses. To really rake in the big bucks, you’ll want a premier
online MBA degree.
10. Network Security Specialist
Cybercrime runs largely unchecked across international borders, and network security specialists who hold
degrees in information technology (especially LAN/WAN/Wireless specialties) are in top demand. Chief information security officers, Salary.com reports, are currently earning between $115,189 and $194,176 a year.
Many take
online classes in network security and have their employer pay for them. Explosive job growth will continue through 2014, according to the BLS, with top positions going to candidates with degrees, up-to-date certifications, and on-the-job savvy.
In short,
online degree programs have opened training opportunities for careers that once seemed out of reach for many working people. With hard work and the appropriate training, you can get you start in one of these hot careers in no time.

HOW CAN I INCREASE MY WORK-AT-HOME PRODUCTIVITY?

How Can I Increase My Work-at-Home Productivity?
If you work at home, use these tips to increase your productivity by avoiding common pitfalls.
Set up your office as far away from the television, kitchen, or other high-traffic areas as possible. If you are unable to do this, establish rules to keeps noise at a minimum during business hours.
Limit the amount of time you surf the Web. Keep your browser window closed and open only your e-mail client. If you do need to browse, restrict yourself to the task at hand. You can also schedule "surfing time" during your slower hours.

Ten Tips for Time Management for Your Home-Based Business
Time is money, and no one knows this better than home-based business owners. You work, you get paid. And if you don't work, well, no one will magically deposit a paycheck into your bank account twice a month.
For most home-based business owners, that's plenty of incentive to manage their
. But how can you make the most of each work day? Start with these 10 tips:
Plan tomorrow today. Even the most successful and conscientious small business owners need help handling all they need to accomplish. Planning tomorrow's schedule today is a great way to get ahead. At the end of each workday, jot down a to-do list of things you want to accomplish tomorrow, in order of priority. That will get you prepared for tomorrow, and you'll avoid wasting time deciding or worrying about what should come next.
Get your priorities straight. Prioritize your tasks. All your activities can be broken down into categories in order of importance. If you need to be networking and finding new business leads, set a time frame for that task. Then set aside time for growing and expanding current business. Then check off all the other tasks that need to be completed by the end of the day.
Maximize downtime. Keep a notepad or tape recorder with you whenever you're away from the office. Jot down or record good ideas whenever they occur to you. Your cell phone also is a great tool. Call yourself and remind yourself of what you need to get done. If you’re traveling, bring your laptop and cell phone with you to the airport, and catch up on email and calls while you wait.
Emulate the early bird. Set your alarm clock for an hour before the rest of the family is due to get up. Get up and get an early start crossing off to-do items on your checklist.
Take breaks. Set aside time for breaks during the day to recharge and reenergize. It’s amazing how much something as simple as a half-hour walk or lunch (not at your desk!) can do to clear your mind and help you refocus on your goals.
Strike a balance. The key to time management is balancing your activities so that your life is not all work and no play. You have to make time to do the things necessary to keep your business growing, but don't do it at the expense of the things you need to do to keep yourself growing.
Pay attention to the little things. It’s the little things that can trip you up and waste time. For example, using dial-up for your computer instead of a high-speed connection to the Internet costs you time. Connecting a fax machine to your main phone line every time you need to send or receive a fax costs you time, as does going back and forth to a printer set up in a different room. Each of these items may only take a few seconds here or there, but in aggregate they can add up and cost you big chunks of your day.
Take out the trash. Throw away everything you don't need as soon as it lands in your mailbox. This will keep junk email and snail mail from piling up and becoming a major distraction.
Stay focused. Yes, the laundry is piling up, and the dishwasher needs to be emptied. But the truth is there will always be things that you could be doing instead of working. But to run a successful home-based business, many times you'll just have to ignore these distractions and stay focused on the task at hand.
Separate church and state. To manage your time working at home efficiently, you have to delegate what hours are for what. Explain to family — especially children — that you aren't choosing work over spending time with them, but that you have to work during work hours. Once the workday is over, focus entirely on your family, and don't let business intrude on your time with them.

DO'S AND DONT'S FOR ONLINE BUSINESS

Stand out Online to Land the Job
Do's and Don'ts for Online Resumes
As a job seeker in the electronic age, it's important to be savvy when it comes to online tools that will help you land your next job.
Online and "traditional" off-line resumes share some similarities. Both serve to show potential employers why you are the best candidate for the job.
"The content of online and off-line resumes is basically the same," ."

"But it's even more important that your online resume stand out. With an online resume, you are dealing with a critical mass, as opposed to an off-line resume that is usually handed to a personal contact."
So what can you do to ensure that your online resume will impress employers? Here are some do's and don'ts for creating a winning online resume

Do: Make Your Online Resume Keyword-Rich
The keywords are vital for online resumes. Montford suggests searching through job postings for your industry to find common terms, and make sure those words are in your resume. Montford also advises job seekers to spell out acronyms to increase hits to your resume.
"Since a computer will be scanning your resume before a human being ever sees it, you need to 'speak' in a language a computer can understand."
Don't: Embellish
Just because you're posting a resume online doesn't mean its OK to embellish your qualifications.
"Don't over-inflate what you've done,"

"There's a funny scenario where a vice president of the company, who is doing the hiring for an entry-level position, reads the job applicant's resume and says (sarcastically),'Wow, sounds like you've already had my job. It doesn't seem like you need to start at entry-level.' It's better to say less and have it accurately reflect what you did in previous jobs than to over-inflate -- something most hiring managers can see right through."
Do: Be Positive
Many disgruntled employees have been fired for airing their frustrations about their jobs online for the entire world to read. We warns that it's important not to accumulate digital dirt that could cost you your current and future jobs. "Keep your online identity positive. Recruiters and companies go to the web first to screen candidates, so it's vital to have a positive presence," .
Don't: Overlook the Power of the Web to Sell Yourself
There are numerous options available on the Internet for promoting yourself to employers. Don't overlook blogs and your own resume web site as unique ways to reach out to potential employers.
"Every job seeker should have a blog and a keyword-rich resume on their own web site," "You can blog about your industry and comment on articles and issues related to your field. Just remember to keep your comments positive."
Do: Be Cautious
Finally, realize that your current employee could be privy to your job search when using online resumes. Keeping a low online profile while employed may be your safest bet
